An appeal to all the citizens of Sri Lanka those who are liable but do not pay Income Tax
Think about the following matters
Although the population of Sri Lanka is approximately 20 million the number of those with income tax files is still comparatively lower.
For an example:-
The number of personal Income Tax files is
Still 165000
The number of tax payers who pay tax on their emoluments is 194,000
Despite the fact that the system of paying tax on the basis of self assessment us operative for a long period of time there is still a large number of persons who are liable to pay tax and they have not realized the gravity of this situation.
Do you know that …
A large number of doctors, lawyer, notaries, professionals and those conduct private tuition classes occupying higher position after having enjoyed the benefits of free education of this country do not pay income tax.
Most of those who are in the above professions including some businessman enjoy welfare facilities such as public transport, health services and infrastructure without paying a single cent to the Government.
How much is the cost of luxury vehicle used by those who do not pay income tax?
How much is spent for the maintenance of such vehicles annually?
From what source do they get these monies?
Does anybody provide them with funds?
Please think of this again and become a tax payer by opening file?
Those who voluntary opt to open a file the process of opening an income tax file has now
been made easy. If you annual income liable to tax is more than Rs. 300,000/- (per 25000/ - monthly) tax file has to opened. However if you total income is less Rs. 1,000,000/- You can get a income tax file opened without providing accounts, of the past years.
Example:-
Assumed your annual net income is Rs. 500,000/-
you will have to pay an annual Tax of
Rs. 10,000/- only
(after deducting tax free allowance Rs. 300,000/-. No penalty whatsoever will be imposed and questions
will not be raised as to the sources of income of the past years.)
Be a taxpayer and face the society as a proud citizen. Your tax money will be spent on your child’s education, development project and welfare activities such as Samurdhi Project.
